Child Rescue Valise

In response to the requirements highlighted by the MS Estonia ferry disaster in 1994, known as the worst maritime disaster of the 20th century, HDT Airborne Systems developed, in partnership with Bristow Helicopters, the Child Rescue Valise (CRV), providing the means for safely airlifting a small child of up to 45kgs (99 lbs) weight into a Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter. The valise attaches to the helicopter winch-cable hook and is normally used together with a crewperson wearing a Helicopter Rescue Harness. Alternatively, a correctly loaded child rescue valise can be winched without direct assistance. The CRV is currently in service with the UK Royal Navy and RAF.

Efficient, Strong and Durable

• Allows the child being rescued to lie with knees raised and allows sufficient space above the face to reduce any feeling of claustrophobia.
• Protects the child with a buoyant foam layer along its base and sides that also allows the valise to retain its shape during use.
• Easily extends to accommodate a larger child.
• Fits on a standard aircraft seat in its normal configuration.
• Maintains easily with water resistant and washable interior lined with texturized “Cordura” fabric.
• Opens and closes using two parallel zip fasteners joined by a handle, thus providing a wide opening for the rescuer to place the child into the valise.
